Mikey Hartman
Involved in striping, art and cars all my life. Dad striped since he was a kid (born in '32) and have 2 younger bros who do it too. In Striping biz since 1979. Not really an artist like most pinstripers, just a plain ol' striper.
I learned my speed from the fastest striper I ever knew out of Houston back in the 70's and 80's.. He taught me that being an artist is fine but you need to learn how to market yoursell so you can pay yourself and the bills. He taught me how to stripe fast and good. I've striped as many as 45 cars, myself, in one day(mainly straights) when I was doing dealers. The most I've ever done at a rod run was in 1990. I did 22 cars with one helper dealing with customers. I'm a lot slower now. I do less jobs but charge more and it all works out. I've learned that it is easier to go down in price instead of up. Too many stripers give their work away and when they finally get a rep, try to increase prices only to find out who their freinds are. Hobby or business, you must learn what it takes to make it work in your favor not the customer. Since I've survived this business for all these years (no job since '78), I am now offering my experience to stripers, auto artists, painters, customizers who want to build a business, make money, learn how to survive and succeed. If you are ready to move forward with your automotive art biz, Im offering my services on a consulting/coaching basis.
