About the Artist
Ray Smith
First picked up a brush(Grumbacher 1010)at the age of 11.Striped my first car (a 1950 Mercury)in 1957.Striped cars all through high school.Served in the U.S.Navy from 1964-1967 and striped cars and squadron plaques.Worked in various body shops and race car shops before going to work at a Mercedes-Benz dealer in 1972.Worked for many dealers in the Boston area striping new cars as well as hot rods,customs,and motorcycles.Medically retired in 1993 after too many back operations.Moved to Michigan in 1993 and started a new life with a new wife;a girl I met in the service.Diagnosed with cancer in 2001 and still surviving it.Still painting up a storm and loving every minute(life as well as painting).Am currently working on a second book in my spare(?)time among other things.
